Have you been considering learning to read Tarot Cards but are not sure if you should invest in an online course or do a live workshop?
For years the only way to study tarot was through attending courses live, seeking out a mentor or studying a book.
But today we are lucky enough to have the option to learn how to read Tarot online. But online learning is still relatively new and it’s easy to feel worried that you won’t get the same learning outcomes or benefits studying online as you would get in a live course.
As someone who has taught both live workshops and courses and now runs online tarot courses through The Psychic Healing Academy, I wanted to explore for you the benefits of studying online to help you if you are considering studying tarot or other psychic development courses online.
1) Allowing yourself all the time you need to absorb the tarot card meanings.
When I was studying to be a teacher at university, one of the first statistics I remember was that during a lecture or a speech we retain 20% or less of the information presented.
So 1 in 5 points that a lecturer or teacher will try to explore will be forgotten within days.
And while you can take notes in a lecture or workshop, chances are even if you revisit these notes to get the gist of the learning points, you can still miss important information.
With this in mind, it’s important to remember that the Tarot is huge. I mean phenomenally huge.
Not only are there 78 cards to master, but most of those cards have multiple interpretations, and can mean different things according to different spreads, questions and positions in the reading.
For example the 9 of pentacles in a career reading often signals success after hard work, and financial rewards coming in so that you are comfortable and your income will continue to grow.
This is obviously a very positive outcome for a business/career reading.
However in a love reading, the 9 of pentacles can be completely different!
Depending on the surrounding cards, it can suggest for a single person looking to meet a partner that perhaps their career might be their focus for a while, that they are building their net wealth so that they can take the time to be in a relationship.
This card acknowledges that sometimes we need to build our nest egg before we can invite someone into our nest.
So while oracle cards can be quickly picked up in a day, the tarot can take months to really master so you feel you’ve got the confidence to give psychic readings and charge for them if you want to take that path.
Now in a live course you only have a certain amount of time to absorb all of this information, whereas in an online course you will most likely have lifetime access, which means you can revisit the lectures whenever you get stuck.
Personally I have attended dozens of courses over the years, and I know that I have retained very little information about what I learned from those courses. Whereas the online courses I have purchased whenever I get stuck, I just log back into my courses and revisit the exact lecture I need.
2) Access to ongoing support
Something I feel very strongly about in my online courses is providing access to me so I can offer support for my students if they are struggling with their course.
Most people assume that if you study online you are out there on your own.
I know for my students that’s not true at all. I’ve had students who started my course over 2 years ago and have returned to visit it and got stuck on a card reading and been able to email me and I’ve been able to help them.
With a live course you may not have this access to your instructor once the course if finished.
A student with lifetime access will also usually feel more comfortable contacting an online instructor than one from a course they did years ago. They may feel like – well they’re not my teacher anymore, why should they answer a question about something that taught me 2 years ago?
Whereas with lifetime access online teachers know that students can dip in and out of their courses for years, so they can offer that ongoing support.
While most students favour live courses because they know they’ll get more practice opportunities with other students, Facebook groups can now offer students this exact same opportunity.
They can post card spreads and ask for feedback and interpretations, and really build up their confidence with the loving support of the private group.
This can really enhance the learning experience and help students continue to study the tarot for more accurate and detailed readings.
Years ago when I qualified as a ThetaHealing Practitioner, I met one person in the course who I practiced with and really connected with. And that was wonderful because we stayed in touch and supported each other.
When I did Doreen Virtue’s live AI seminar 10 years ago I stayed in touch with 1 or 2 of the students, but over the years we lost touch.
In a private Facebook group, my students connect with hundreds of other students, and have built relationships with so many different students across the world that have lasted years.
So with these types of opportunities online learning can really help you master the tarot and other psychic development topics.
3) Access to the latest updated information
Now I’ve done a lot of courses over the years, and I can’t remember ever an instructor from one of the live courses I’ve attended emailing me with the latest updates and changes to the courses they have taught me.
However, because I take online courses in graphic design and SEO and other subjects to help my business, my instructors frequently email me the latest information about the subject I am studying.
And I know in my own tarot course over the years I have added more lectures to the course as I delve more into the wonderful world of tarot.
This helps my students not only get access to the latest information and techniques, but also receive additional information to enhance their learning.
4) Cost Factor- Online Tarot Courses can cost so much less
As someone who has taught both live courses and online, I know the overheads for teaching live courses can be high. Not only does an instructor have to invest in advertising and materials, but they also need to pay to hire a space.
As a result instructors often need to charge hundreds of dollars for a 2 day course just to ensure their expenses are covered.
I used to charge up to $500 for a weekend psychic development course but now I can sell my online courses for only $97 because I don’t need to worry about overheads. I still have to invest in my equipment and have other expenses as well as the months it takes to create, edit and publish my course but I don’t need to charge $500 to cover that.
So now my students can learn what I used to teach in my live courses for less than a quarter of the cost!
There’s no denying this is probably one of the best things about studying online- the pajamas syndrome. You can literally sit around in your pajamas and discover how to give accurate psychic readings with the tarot.
You don’t have to take time off work to fit in with a live workshop, you don’t have to pay for parking or public transport.
If it’s a weekly course, you don’t have to worry if you need to miss a week because of another commitment that you’ll miss out on your course material or won’t be getting your money’s worth.
I used to run The Healer’s Path- an 8 week psychic development course every Wednesday night and sometimes due to work commitments birthdays, anniversary’s and other important events some of my students would have to miss 2-3 of the weeks.
With online learning this is never an issue. Even if you are doing an 8 week online course with some live interaction with the instructor, if you miss that week- it will often be recorded so you can go back and revisit it.
And the modules will always be available to view whenever you need them.
So these are some important reasons why you can benefit from studying tarot online, and the opportunities that can present themselves when you are trying to master the tarot either for business or for your own spiritual guidance.
I hope you’ve enjoyed!
Blessings and Love

Do you struggle to stay grounded when you’re travelling?
Do you find your intuition gets rattled and you’re often disoriented when stepping outside of your comfort zone and arriving in new holiday destinations?
Often when we travel our spirit can become very disorientated, and this can make us irritable and uneasy. It can also lower our immune system which can lead us to feeling run down and getting sick.
Our intuition can also get a little erratic, as our spirit is all over the place, and this can lead us to making really poor decisions and feeling frustrated that our holiday is not going as planned.
Not a great way to kick off that holidaying travel adventures you’ve worked so hard to accomplish!
This article will offer you 3 easy ways to keep your spirit grounded when you’re travelling and outside of your normal comfort zone and ensure you avoid getting sick from your immune system getting knocked around by the vigours of travel.
When I was 24 I set off around the world, keen as a bean to have many extraordinary adventures. I planned my trip for a year, was ready to have the time of my life, and believed this decision to leave behind everyone I love and set off solo for six months was THE best decision I had ever made.
Six months later I wound up unexpectedly in India with bronchitis verging on pneumonia , and nearly had a nervous breakdown; sick, exhausted and worn out and on the verge of smashing a mirror in the tiny apartment I had rented from sheer frustration. 17 years later I consider myself a much more seasoned traveller, and over my years of bumpy travel rides, I have discovered these 3 tips that have helped prevent a re-enactment of my mirror-smashing India days.
I realise now that part of the reason my trip went so downhill was because I became ungrounded, my intuition got shot to pieces and I made a whole lot of mistakes that cost me my health and nearly my sanity!
If you are considering taking a holiday somewhere out of your comfort zone- even if it’s just for a few weeks, these tips can ensure that you stay completely in tune with your intuition, and that your vibration stays high.
Tip 1: Choose a Talisman or an Amulet for Protection and Strength.
While a talismans are traditionally used for good luck, they can also be used for protection. Similarly Amulets have been used for centuries to protect owners from harm. To choose a talisman you can use anything from a crystal that offers protective qualities to medallion or figure of a deity. Most cultures have their own deity who offers protection while travelling.
Before embarking on long journeys Catholics would turn to St Christopher and keep his medallion with them. The Greeks favoured Hecate and Hermes to protect them while travelling and the Japanese would pray to Jizo; a Bodhisattva vowed to protect women, children and travellers.
When you choose a talisman for your travels, it helps to pick something that you connect strongly with and gives you courage.
Travel will always be full of surprises- and this can be a good thing. However for those of us who get startled by unexpected change, or struggle in situations where we don’t feel in control in can really throw your energy way out if you say for example you arrive at a hotel and find it’s completely booked and you have to go somewhere else or your plane is delayed by 12 hours or some other similar travel debacle.
It’s easy to fall into despair if it’s been a long journey and are sleepless, worn out, sticky from travel, heaving with luggage and suddenly you have to make a decision about where to sleep.
For me I usually take a really grounding crystal- I love black tourmaline- and I also love blue lace agate- this combination of grounding and calming really helps to counter-act any surprises or rough experiences I may come across when travelling. I also have a necklace with angel wings that I will squeeze when I’m feeling anxious just to offset any crazy mind thoughts and irritation if my travel plans aren’t going smoothly.
The first time I went to Sri Lanka with my husband five years ago I had booked one of the most well-known hotels in the country. I booked six months ahead, getting excited by the pictures and wonderful reviews. When friends of my husband’s family discovered we were staying there, they all wisely nodded that it was an incredible hotel and an excellent choice for my first visit.
We arrived at 3am after a long flight, only to be led down an elevator that went below the lobby into what looked to me like the hallway of The Shining.
In the sticky heat I could smell the damp and the mould, and my stomach filled with dread.
I tried to keep positive though, hoping that the porter would open the door and reveal a masterpiece like in the pictures, only to be sadly disappointed. He turned the key and we stepped inside, and while the room was serviceable, and had a stunning ocean outlook- it was literally on the ground floor – you could smell the ocean but you could also smell the hundreds of years of sticky dampness, all throughout the room. The fridge was broken, the air-conditioning leaked- the bathroom was garish, I was so disappointed.
My asthmatic lungs seized and I struggled to breathe and spent the first few hours of my glorious holiday tossing and turning on the bed, furious at the hotel, my initial impressions of Sri Lanka literally dampened.
The next morning I woke and rummaged through my suitcases hunting for my talisman- a blacktourmaline crystal. I sat on the veranda and rubbed the black tourmaline- and within a few minutes, felt calmer and more optimistic. I vowed I would get us a better room and our holiday would be fantastic.
After having an amazing breakfast that exceeded all expectations, I went to register my concern at the front desk and we got upgraded to nearly the top floor!
I learnt from that experience that you need a talisman to calm and soothe you when things don’t go according to plan so you don’t begin your holiday in a negative frame of mine. So choose yourself something you can turn to- small and portable and probably not heavy so it doesn’t weigh down your cabin luggage and turn to it to keep your vibration high when travel throws you a curve ball.
2) Take a packet of Vata tea bags in your cabin baggage.
Ok this is totally random- but I still curse myself when I forget my Vata tea, even after 17 years of travelling. This inexpensive little immune-booster can balance out any disruptions to your energy system and add nourishing warming spices to your chest which is vital if you’ve been on air-conditioned planes for hours. Vata is one of the 3 doshas make up Ayurvedic medicine; the traditional medicine of India and Sri Lanka. Those people with a Vata imbalance are usually easily stimulated and can get irritable or run down with sudden weather changes or when they aren’t eating enough warm nourishing foods. Travel is a huge cause of Vata imbalance. Often you will emerge from the plane, dehydrated, exhausted, anxious and cranky from a lot flight. Vata tea can warm your innards and balance you so that feel calmer and more centred. Brimming with ginger, cloves, cinnamon and other yummy spices, you can feel the hit to the chest instantly and feel more grounded and calm.
This is the brand that I love and they are so inexpensive and come in tea-bags so you can even have them on the plane. I have spent many hours in transit all around the world approaching cafes for a cup of hot water to dunk my Vata tea in and avoiding getting sick, being irritable and feeling that inevitable restlessness that accompanies long journeys. I highly recommend adding some Vata tea to your cabin baggage to help calm and balance and warm you.
3) Ensure you’ve booked a really nice place for your first 3 nights.
Ok- this will also seem an odd one, but one of my biggest tips for staying grounded and keeping your vibration high is to ensure you have booked a really lovely hotel for your first 3 nights, with a highly recommended restaurant. Even going outside your budget to do this can make such a difference to your vibe! People underestimate the physical, emotional and vibrational toll that travel takes on the body and the being. Think about the weeks preparing, packing, organising and making sure you’re on time for check-in, customs, and the plane. Followed by a long flight in often not great comfort, and not great food surrounded by constant noise and the psychic energy of hundreds of other passengers all anxious to make their flights. Your beautiful being is absorbing all that – so not only do you need to be very psychically protected – (this really should be tip number 4) but you want to arrive somewhere, walk into your room and be amazed. Chances are all your boundaries will be down, you won’t be feeling up for any kind of experience outside your comfort zone, and you’ll want to rest, recuperate and slowly get used to your new surroundings to give your spirit a chance to catch up.
I’m still amused at myself how I make plans on my first night of a new country- as I rarely stick to them. Most of them time I am so worn out and like a caterpillar not quite ready to emerge from the cocoon- I just want to stay ‘in’ and be comfortable warm and safe.
I’m not energetically always ready for the bombardment of new smells, sights, noises , experiences that can confront a traveller when visiting a country for the first time.
The American Indians say that when we fly it can take a month for our spirit to catch up- and I know my spirit doesn’t usually know what’s going on the first night I arrive in a country!
Having an abundant spacious hotel room with a lovely restaurant means you can settle in slowly.
Especially if you are travelling in a developing country like parts of Asia, Africa and South America.
You can have access to clean water, good food, and a comfortable bed.
You can sit on your veranda in your comfy clothes and have a cup of tea or a glass of wine to celebrate that you’ve arrived without being bombarded by outside sensory assault. Culture shock affects most of us- and we almost inevitably feel like we won’t’ experience it! But most of us do. And its natural after all- our souls and spirit don’t’ believe our minds most of the time. They know something is amiss!
I am not a 5 star traveller typically although I have nothing against it- I just love the feeling of staying in a 3-4 star guesthouse and getting to really ‘feel a country by being served by the people- not waiters hovering around me in tuxedos where I feel like I could be in my own country.
But I don’t want to be sighing on my first few nights because the hot water isn’t working, or there are mosquitos – or there’s no access to clean water, or there’s an odd smell in the bathroom or things that I am usually happy to put up with in lower star accommodation.
I don’t want to go out and hunt for good food after hours of airplane and airport food. I want food either bought to me, or be able to just go downstairs and find something yummy and nourishing, until I feel up to the task of exploring the neighbourhood.
Of course I acknowledge not everyone is like this- but I know for me as an empathy and sensitive, I am easily affected by environments and energy and it takes a while for mine to adjust to something new.
For example I’m currently organising a trip to Bali and I know most of our accommodation will be lovely mid-range accommodation: - villas with pools through AirBB, and guesthouses with little bungalows by the beach with hot water and aircon and lovely breakfasts. The beds won’t be fancy, there will be no Evian water and the outdoor bathrooms could have mosquitos- there will be a fridge- but no fancy products inside maybe a few Bingtang beers and some peanuts.
But for the first few nights I’ve booked us into the Swissbel Hotel because I want to arrive and go wow- this is comfortable! It may not be the unique travelling experience but after standing in line for hours for customs and baggage checks in 2 different countries a long plane ride I’m not usually looking for any unique experiences.
So for you- to get yourself used to the culture shock and keep your vibration high and ready to enjoy your holiday I can highly recommend splurging on something a little outside your normal budget just for the first few days.
Keeping grounded and your vibration high is so important when we are travelling – being outside your comfort can bring up a lot of fears and anxiety about controlling our environments in situations where it’s not controllable.
Baggage and flight delays, different climates, and the difference sensory experiences of othercultures can really throw our energy out- so its important to use little tricks like this to ensure your holiday is the joyous celebration you’ve been hoping for!
Blessings and love
